Staff Profile – Meet Zimbabwe Born Automotive Photographer, Henry Nel

Henry Nel
(Infrastructure Technician Apprentice)

Born and raised in Zimbabwe, IBEX’s Infrastructure Technician Apprentice, Henry Nel, is an intriguing man with an intriguing background. With interests in cyber security, automotive photography, and both Ice Cube and Frank Sinatra, I knew Henry’s was going to be an interesting staff profile to write up.

To get to know him a little better, I asked Henry a few (not too personal) questions about himself…

A quick summary of what you do at IBEX
I am currently an apprentice in IT so a large part of my time at IBEX is spent learning and applying what I have learned into action. I help maintain all things IT within the business such as the network systems and computers used by staff within the business. One of the projects I have worked on since being part of the business has been supporting secure and seamless remote working.

How did you find yourself at IBEX?
I joined IBEX through a Infrastructure Technician apprenticeship with QA apprenticeships, having been successful in an interview with Kevin and Bradley.

Professional background, life outside of work, and some key interests?
Outside of the business I am an avid photographer and it is something I have been doing for over 10 years. I have always had a passion for anything automotive, so I decided a few years ago to focus on automotive photography. I have been lucky enough to photograph a wide range of cars from modern-day sports cars through to classic American muscle cars.

What are some of your future goals and aspirations?
It is hard to say really, if I were to stay in the world of IT and computers, then a goal for me would be to be more involved in IT security. I would also love to become a full-time photographer working with car manufacturers worldwide.

A moment in life that you’ll never forget?
Being born and living my early life in Zimbabwe I have had some truly unforgettable experiences. One moment that will stay with me forever is going out on our speedboat with my father early in the morning on Lake Kariba. We would always try to get some fishing in before breakfast and the feeling of watching the African sunrise is something you can never forget.

Your go-to productivity trick?
I find I am most productive when I am listening to music. It helps me relax and focus my mind onto what I am doing. The type of music varies and can be anything from Ice Cube to Frank Sinatra.

What has surprised you about working at IBEX?
The biggest surprise I found about working at IBEX was the amount of work that went into creating the Trueview product. The first few days really opened my eyes as to what is involved in producing commercial software and the IT required. A long cry from my former work as a restaurant manager!

Henry sent over some of his photographs for me to take a look at, and they’re incredible! Take a look at a few of his shots below:
