Staff Profile – Meet Senior Statistician, Adam Ratcliffe

Adam Ratcliffe
(Senior Statistician)

Adam Ratcliffe has been working at IBEX for over 5 years now, making him one of the company’s earliest employees! Working as a Senior Statistician alongside his part-time PhD, Adam mainly focuses on developing Trueview’s core algorithm, but he also chips in and supports the rest of the team whenever possible!

I asked Adam a few questions to find out a little more about him and his ambitions…

A quick summary of what you do at IBEX?
I develop the core algorithm behind Trueview, whether it be new functionality, updates to the core functionality, or improving efficiency. I also provide support to other projects and staff when it’s needed – since I have a pretty extensive in-depth knowledge of our entire method, I’m often the person people will go to if they have any questions.

How did you find yourself at IBEX?
I found an advert for a job on my university careers website that sounded great for me during my graduation week in 2015 but by the time I updated my CV and went to apply, the advert had gone. About a week later I found the same position on a different website and applied straight away. At some point between applying and accepting the job, I also received a call from a recruiter asking if I would be interested in the very same job – clearly, they also thought I would be a good fit!

Professional background, life outside of work, and some key interests?
This is my first job after completing my masters at Durham University. As of a couple of years ago, IBEX is sponsoring me through a part-time PhD in Bayesian Statistics at Durham University. My focus is on further improving the unique material inference problem IBEX solves, building upon the work done in Ben Lopez’s thesis.

What are some of your future goals and aspirations?
I’d like to help Trueview become a product widely used in healthcare throughout the world while finishing my PhD.

Your go-to productivity trick?
Taking a minute to go get some fresh water and have a look out the window. Nothing beats a short notice, high-pressure, and incredibly important deadline though.

A lot of the IBEX team members I speak to seem to love high-pressure deadlines… am I missing something?

Anyway, hope you enjoyed reading about Adam!
